Class description:
In this beginners metal class students will learn to create their own beautiful pair of statement earrings and more (no torch required!)! This class will cover basic metalsmithing techniques through the use of sawing, cold connections and the application of surface design and textures using basic but fundamental hand tools. Join us in this fun workshop taught by Elysha Roberts, from Elysha Joy Metals and leave with your own finished one-of-a-kind design!
You will learn:
- How to pierce, saw, bend and shape sheet metal to fit your design
- How to apply texture and pattern using hammers, a rolling mill and metal stamps
- How to create unique connections with rivets and jump rings
- How to make your own unique ear wires to finish your design
- How to file, sand and polish your piece for a professional finish
*It is not required but students are encouraged to bring their own objects to transfer pattern onto metal with the use of the rolling mill! This includes but is not limited to:
Dried leaves/ organic material, lace or textured fabric, paper cut outs, plastic, be creative! The only thing we can’t roll are sandy things and steel!
