Soldering 101 with Cecilia Minnehan

Day: Wednesdays

Time: 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Session 1: September 19 to October 10, 2018 (4 classes = 12 hours)

Session 2: October 17 to November 14, 2018 (5 classes = 15 hours)

Session 3: January 9 to February 6, 2019 (5 week class = 15 hours)

Session 4: February 13 to March 13, 2019 (5 week class = 15 hours)

Location: Jewelry Studio

Fee:  5 Class Session: $340 

(Session 1: $280 (4 classes))

Fee includes all materials. 

No previous experience required. Minimum age 14. 

 

In this 4 and 5 week class by Cecilia Minnehan, from Cecilia Designs, you will learn the fundamentals of soldering and how to set up your own soldering station. You will learn about manipulating metal, bending, folding, twisting, hammering, sanding filling and how all pieces will solder together, how to prepare your metals for soldering and how to solder different thicknesses to each other. We will work with copper and sterling. 

 

Metalsmithing skills covered in this class:

  • torch set up
  • types of solder and their purpose
  • soldering wires, jump rings, earring posts, bezel wire
  • annealing
  • sanding / finishing / polishing options

 

Please bring reading glasses if you use them! Open to students of any level, beginners welcome. No previous experience required.

*Dress code: For safety reasons we ask everyone to comply with the dress code policy for metalsmithing: Closed-toe footwear (no sandals), pants/shorts must go below the knee, long hair must be pulled back from the face and secured. Wear a headband or a hat if your hair can’t be tied back.
