Description

Wire Work Fundamentals with Sarah Young
Day: Wednesdays
Dates: May 15, 22 // June 5, 19
Time: 6:00 - 8:00PM
Location: Jewelry Studio
Fee: $45 per class, includes all materials.
No previous experience required. Minimum age 13 when accompanied by an adult participant.

In this single evening class, taught by Sarah K Young of Vineyard Sky Bead Design you’ll learn some simple wire working techniques: basic netting, wrapped (closed) loops and decorative spirals. Turn your beach finds - sea glass, stones or pottery shards, into a functional pendant or charm piece. These fundamental skills can easily translate into a variety of jewelry making techniques. Using either copper or brass wire you will learn how to wrap your treasure to create either a pendant or key fob. Bring your own or choose a piece or two from our studio selection.
You will create a pendant or charm to leave with at the end of class and gain skill in the following areas:

  • Use of a variety of pliers and cutters
  • Understanding wire gauge and why it matters
  • How shape determines the style of wire wrap
  • How to bend, twist and loop wire and which tools to use for each technique

Dress code!
For safety reasons we ask everyone to comply with the dress code policy in the Metals Department: Closed-toe footwear (no sandals), pants/shorts must go below the knee, long hair must be pulled back from the face and secured. Wear a headband or a hat if your hair can’t be tied back.
