Let’s follow in the footsteps of Picasso. He used the reductive method of linoleum cut block printing to great effect. We will work with rubber blocks because they’re easier and more fun to carve and print. There are four or five steps in this process. Starting out with just minimal carving of the block, we’ll make 10-15 prints using a light color. We then carve away a bit more of the block and print a slightly darker layer of ink over the lighter one we started with.  Where the second carving has removed rubber, the lighter color on the print will still show. We repeat this process, carving away more of that same block and printing other, even darker colors, over the first two.  It is possible to keep going for many layers until there’s barely anything left of the block.
