Jennifer Tseng
Start Small: What Writers Can Learn from Very Short Stories

Saturday April 4th: 10 am - 3 pm
Sunday April 5th: 10 am - 1 pm
$250

Reading and writing very short stories can teach us several basic lessons of fiction writing, including the art of omission, compression, economy, and urgency. Whether you’re already part of the current very short story renaissance or plan to use your very short story as a springboard for a longer project, this weekend workshop will help you set limits that both sharpen your focus and expand your sense of artistic freedom. Readings, prompts, and exercises will be provided.

Jennifer Tseng’s flash fiction collection, The Passion of Woo & Isolde (Rose Metal Press 2017), was a Firecracker Award finalist and winner of an Eric Hoffer Book Award; and her novel, Mayumi and the Sea of Happiness (Europa Editions 2015), was shortlisted for the PEN American Center's Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction and the New England Book Award. She’s a Visiting Core Faculty member of OSU Cascades’s low residency MFA program.

The Passion of Woo & Isolde is "a shining example of the powerful punch short fiction can deliver." - Unbroken Journal
