Visiting Artist Workshop: Painterly Pastel Landscapes with Cheryl O'Neil
Days: Thursday
Date: September 9
Time: 9:30AM - 3:30PM
Location: Art Barn Painting Studio
Fee: $150 plus materials (materials list below)

Pastel and landscape are natural companions because pastel beautifully depicts light and atmospheric effects.
Soft (chalk) pastels are fun to use, vibrant, and expressive.  This informative one-day workshop explores the basic principles of pastel painting and will cover materials, composition, value, and color. We will focus on technique and experimentation through a series of demonstrations, guided exercises, and individual instruction. Using landscape photographs as inspiration, you will learn to simplify a composition and paint a strong, expressive landscape. For beginning and intermediate students or those wanting to try a new medium.
Tentative class schedule:
Morning: Welcome/Overview of class, review supplies and how to set up pastels for class and home studio, discuss principles and techniques through demonstration, guided exercises and hand-outs
Lunch: Brown bag or pick up your lunch at a local market
Afternoon: Choose your landscape photograph to simplify  and paint, followed by individual instruction at the easel.
